How long does my child need to wear MiSight contact lenses?
For the absolute best results, we recommend that children wear their MiSight lenses for at least 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. You should think of these lenses as your child’s primary, everyday vision correction—the go-to choice for school, sports, and weekend fun.
While we understand that schedules change and some days might be shorter, consistency is key to getting the maximum protective benefit. If your child wears them less often than recommended, the lenses will still work to slow down myopia progression, but they may not be quite as effective as they would be with full, regular wear. Encouraging a steady daily routine helps ensure your child gets the full power of this breakthrough treatment!

The first step is a specialized Myopia Management Consultation. We will measure your child’s current prescription, assess the shape of their eyes, and determine if they are an ideal candidate for MiSight.
Is my child too young for contact lenses?
Probably not. Age alone is rarely the deciding factor when determining whether a child is ready for contact lenses. Many children successfully wear MiSight® lenses beginning around age 7 or 8, and some may be ready even earlier. In most cases, a child’s maturity, motivation, and ability to follow instructions are more important than their age.
MiSight lenses are daily disposable contacts, which means a fresh pair is used each day and discarded at night. Because there are no cleaning solutions or lens cases to manage, many families find the routine simpler than they expected.
During your child’s evaluation, we will assess their readiness for contact lens wear and provide hands-on training for both the child and parent. Most children adapt quickly and become confident inserting and removing their lenses with a little practice.
If contact lenses are not the right fit at this time, other myopia management options such as Stellest® lenses or low-dose atropine may also be considered.
How do you know if treatment is working?
We track whether the treatment is working by looking at data over time rather than day-to-day changes. Because children’s eyes naturally grow as they get older, the goal of myopia management isn’t to stop vision changes entirely, but to slow them down significantly.
The absolute best way to know if treatment is working is by measuring axial length—the physical length of the eye from front to back. Using advanced, non-invasive imaging technology, we measure this length down to the fraction of a millimeter. We compare your child’s eye growth against specialized growth charts for children their age. If the eye is growing at a much slower, more normal rate than it was before starting the program, we know the treatment is successfully doing its job.
We also track how much your child’s prescription changes from year to year. Before starting myopia management, a child’s nearsightedness might jump significantly at every annual exam.
Are MiSight lenses safe?
Yes. MiSight® 1 Day lenses have been studied extensively and are FDA-approved for slowing myopia progression in children. When worn and cared for as directed, they are considered a safe and effective option for myopia management.
Like any contact lens, MiSight contact lenses carry a small risk of complications, including eye irritation or infection. However, because MiSight lenses are worn only during the day and discarded after a single use, there is no need for cleaning solutions or overnight storage, which can help reduce some of the risks associated with reusable contact lenses.

Does my child sleep in MiSight lenses?
No. MiSight 1-Day lenses are daily disposables, meaning they are designed to be worn only while your child is awake. At the end of the day, your child simply takes them out and throws them in the trash before heading to bed.
Sleeping in soft contact lenses—even for a quick nap—deprives the eyes of oxygen and significantly increases the risk of eye irritation and serious infections. Taking them out every night keeps your child’s eyes healthy, fresh, and safe.
Can MiSight stop myopia completely?
No, MiSight lenses cannot stop myopia completely, but they are incredibly effective at slowing it down.
It helps to think of myopia management like a brake pedal on a car, rather than a complete parking brake. While we cannot freeze a child’s prescription entirely or reverse the changes that have already happened, MiSight lenses slow down the speed at which the eye grows.
On average, clinical studies show that MiSight lenses slow the progression of nearsightedness by about 59%. This means that while your child’s eyes will likely still change slightly as they grow, their prescription will end up significantly lower than it would have without the treatment. Keeping that final number as low as possible is the ultimate goal, as it protects their long-term eye health and makes their adult life much easier.
Does MiSight correct astigmatism?
The short answer is no; standard MiSight 1-Day lenses do not correct astigmatism. They are spherical lenses specifically designed to correct nearsightedness (myopia) while slowing its progression.
Children with a very small amount of astigmatism can usually wear MiSight lenses without any issues. The lens will still provide them with crisp, clear vision during the day while successfully managing their myopia.
The manufacturer of MiSight is planning to release expanded parameters so patients with mild to moderate amounts of astigmatism will get better vision.
Does insurance help cover MiSight?
Many vision insurance plans provide benefits that can help offset a portion of the cost of myopia management. In many cases, vision plans may contribute toward contact lenses, helping reduce out-of-pocket expenses.
Professional services associated with myopia management—such as specialized testing, axial length measurements, treatment planning, and ongoing monitoring—are often not covered by vision insurance and may require separate fees.
